Geelong coach Chris Scott has confirmed stars Gary Ablett and Joel Selwood will return for Round 18 action, giving the pair a good chance to tune up for finals.

Ablett flew to Queensland on September 1 and undertook two-weeks in quarantine after returning back to Victoria in July, missing out on a number of matches with the club.

But there will be no waiting around for Ablett, with Scott confirming he will be back for the game against Sydney.

“Yeah for sure (he will play), that’s always been our plan,” Scott said on Fox Footy’s AFL 360.

“Having seen him up close, he’ll certainly play. I’m confident he’ll play well.

“He’s such a proud competitor he doesn’t want to use a physical issue as an excuse. He’s lacking some match fitness this year but he’s in better shape than 12 months ago.”

Scott also confirmed captain Joel Selwood will return after multiple weeks off.

“He will definitely play too. We’ve held him back a lot. He could’ve played in previous weeks,” he revealed.

“He and I along with others have put a lot of thought into this.”
