Izak Rankine has burst onto the scene in his first two games showing class as a half-forward who can kick incredible goals from anywhere.

Based in Queensland with blonde tips in his hair and flowing with confidence, the comparisons to Brownlow Medallist Jason Akermanis have already started to come in.

The Brisbane legend himself has loved what he’s seen from Rankine at this very early stage of his career.

“I looked at him and I was watching his debut game, I just happened to be watching the game … I looked at him and said man that looks like a distant brother!” he told SEN Afternoons.

“I was that happy with it and then he started getting a kick and dancing around and then on his debut giving it to the opposition with just a little bit of confidence.

“Not over confidence, not fake confidence, just a beautiful amount where he says ‘I’m here to play boys, I know what I’m doing’.

“I couldn’t help but be a fan straight up. Not just because he looked like me of course, but the way he’s playing footy. I was suitably impressed.”

Rankine has already been nominated for the Rising Star award and will look to impress again tonight against the Western Bulldogs.
