Former Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson has heaped praise on Chris Scott in the wake of signing a two-year extension to remain at the Cattery.

If Scott sees out the new extension, he will become the longest-serving coach in Geelong’s history.

Speaking on SEN’s Crunch Time Sanderson admired what the former Lions midfielder has been able to achieve in his time coaching the Cats.

“His CV is full, the only thing that’s potentially missing is the ability to be able to take a side in the bottom four or five and then see the improvement,” he said.

“His winning percentage is amazing, but he would comfortably walk into any other side in the competition whenever he wanted, his CV is that good and he is a great coach it's as simple as that.

“He’s tactically incredible, strategic structures and he’s always worked on relationships. That was probably the area he was open about (working on).”

The 46-year-old has coached 275 games since he succeeded Mark 'Bomber' Thompson in 2011 and has an impressive winning percentage of 68.63 per cent.

Sanderson says Scott has been able to maintain his success thanks to his continual drive to adapt and evolve with the game rather than relying on tactics that had given them success in previous years.

“You have to keep reminding yourself to be relevant and keep adjusting, you’ve always got to stay ahead of curve, and he is creative, he keeps bringing new things to the table,” he explained.

“He’ll be remembered as one of the great Geelong coaches.”

The Cats sit 6-4 pending the result against the Crows on Saturday and appear destined to be contenders yet again in 2022.
