Kane Cornes said Adelaide would be “desperate” to win two more games this season to solidify their improvement in 2021.

Of the back of a wooden spoon season last year, the Crows won three of their first four games this season but have trailed off since to only win a further two matches, sitting in 16th spot with five rounds left.

Ahead of their meeting with the 17th-placed Hawthorn on Saturday night, Cornes said Adelaide would be chasing two more wins to meet their pre-season expectations.

“I know Adelaide’s target for wins (this season) was eight,” he said on SEN SA Breakfast.

“It was looking pretty likely when there were three and one wins (after four rounds) to get to that, but I think they’re realistic they’re not going to get to eight.

“They are desperate to get two more wins and get to seven – there’s certainly a mix between not wanting to win another wooden spoon and they have to pick a team that is capable of doing that. Against a Hawthorn team that’s been smashed by injuries, that's a real chance of a win this season.

“There’s a couple of must-win games for the Crows and one of them is this week and another is against North Melbourne, if they can pull those off against get seven wins, it’s probably a par season.”

Adelaide was forced to flee South Australia amid the state’s seven-day COVID lockdown and will take on Hawthorn in a ‘home’ game at Marvel Stadium ahead of Adelaide Oval.
