On Tuesday night, Jordan Lewis left Gary Ablett out of his top five players since 2000.

“Maybe his time at Gold Coast wasn’t as influential as it may have been if he was still at the Cats,” Lewis said on Fox Footy Live alongside a stunned Jason Dunstall.

But after 48 hours of reflection, the recently retired four-time premiership player backflipped, conceding he got it wrong.

“I do (regret it), yeah,” Lewis said on the same show on Thursday evening.

“I’ve had a long hard think about it and I’ve learned that you should do your research before you come on.

“If I had to do it again I would put him in but it’s hard to take one of those players out.”

Lewis’ top five was initially Lance Franklin at spot one, followed by Chris Judd, Luke Hodge, Scott Pendlebury and Matthew Scarlett.

And instead of sliding Ablett in for Scarlett in fifth position, Lewis decided to punt two-time Brownlow medallist Judd instead.

“I wanted to get a backman in, not that I’m a defender, but because Bung (Dunstall) did his and he had four forwards out of the five and was clearly biased towards one position,” he continued.

“If I was going to take one out and put Ablett in I would probably do Judd.

“Scarlett for me was a superstar and for whatever reason when you do these sorts of lists, good defenders miss out.

“They don’t get thought of. He was the best fullback nearly of all time with him and SOS. And he’s a good bloke.”

When quizzed on which players should be classified as ‘superstars’, Nick Dal Santo and Lewis both agreed there are just five in the competition: Dustin Martin, Patrick Dangerfield, Nat Fyfe, Ablett and Franklin.
