Who were the six best players in Round 7?

Nathan Buckley assessed each game and came up with his top six performers.

Read his thoughts below:

Andrew McGrath (Essendon)

“He was fantastic,” Buckley said on SEN Breakfast.

“Zach Merrett got the award, and I thought that was well deserved, but I just loved Andy McGrath’s game and the way he has begun the season.

“He has been first class.”

Jeremy Cameron (Geelong)

“Can’t go past Jeremy Cameron.

“Five goals, getting up the ground and having an impact.”

Marc Pittonet (Carlton)

“When coaches talk about making the teammates around you better…

“To make Patty Cripps and Sam Walsh better, you’re doing your role pretty well.

“He’s been elevating some of Carlton’s best players. He was fantastic.”

Kane Cornes added: “He may have played the best two games of his career in a row in the last two weeks.”

Caleb Serong (Fremantle)

“Caleb Serong has just kept going.

“He was ably assisted by the old war horse, Nat Fyfe, who turned back the clock.

“I love the way Serong goes about it and his work rate is through the roof.”

Cornes added: “It’s a club record, 17 clearances.

“I was rapt he was All-Australian last year because he’s so consistent.

“His effort is unconditional and you’d love to play alongside him.”

Noah Anderson (Gold Coast)

“He spoke about after the game being tagged the week before and hadn’t had that close checking, run-with against him.

“He learned a lot about that. He’s not going to face that often but I suppose if you haven’t faced it much it is a shock to the system.

“Jarrod Witts a bit stiff not to be included in our six.”

Cornes added: “He’s had 33 disposals, 12 clearances, 11 inside 50s, nine score involvements and he’s kicked two goals.

“The No.1 ranked player on the ground by a mile.”

Nick Blakey (Sydney)

“So many of the Swans players that find the ball, that use it really well by hand and foot.

“Nick Blakey just breaks the game open. He has been a big reason for Sydney’s ability to transition and score consistently.”
