CLUBS ‘STRONGLY PURSUING’ PREMIERSHIP EAGLE

West Coast midfielder Elliot Yeo is drawing ‘strong’ interest from clubs, according to AFL Media journalist Cal Twomey.

Despite managing just 37 games across the past four seasons due to persistent injury, the 30-year-old appears to have regained the starring form of his formative years.

Twomey said clubs are ‘strongly pursing’ Yeo, who attracted interest from Geelong and Essendon last season while contracted at Lathlain.

The former East Fremantle junior has played in all six Eagles outings thus far, averaging 26.2 disposals per game — a mark he’s never hit over the course of a full season, with 24.6 in West Coast’s 2018 premiership year representing his best product.

Yeo has played 198 games and is eligible for unrestricted free agency this year.

SUPERSTAR LION TABLED HUGH-GE DEAL

Influential Brisbane midfielder Hugh McCluggage has a six-year deal on the table from the Lions, per Twomey.

Such a contract would lock the in-demand Lion in at Springfield until at least 2030.

It comes after Herald Sun journalist Jon Ralph reported earlier in the month on Fox Footy that McCluggage could command up to $1.3 million a year on a long-term deal.

“The good news is the Lions do have money in their cap, they’ve been storing it away for this day,” Ralph said in April, as the star onballer ponders his footballing future.

The 26-year-old South Warrnambool export is slated to enter restricted free agency at the conclusion of this season.

McCluggage totalled the second-most goal assists in the AFL last season and has started the 2024 campaign in fine form, averaging a career-high 25.8 disposals per game.

The 161-gamer has never played less than 18 matches in a season through his seven full years in the league thus far.

McCluggage was chosen by Brisbane with Pick 3 in the 2016 national draft.

RELIABLE CAT TO TURN BACK ON RIVAL INTEREST

Off-contract Geelong defender Jack Henry is nearing a fresh deal with the Cats, per The Age journalist Jake Niall.

Niall reports Henry’s new contract is ‘certain’ to be a minimum of four years in length.

The 25-year-old Geelong Falcons product was set to enter unrestricted free agency at the end of this year — having served eight years at Kardinia Park — but the expectation is he will turn down the opportunity to test the market.

Niall added North Melbourne, Hawthorn and St Kilda were among the clubs to have registered varying levels of interest in the Cats stopper.

After entering the professional ranks as a rookie draft pick in 2016, Henry has played 124 AFL games under Chris Scott including the 2022 grand final triumph over Sydney.

The dependable backman managed just 11 senior games last season as he battled injury, though he has played in all six Geelong outings thus far in 2024.
