Essendon recruit Xavier Duursma suffered a torn quad at training on Wednesday, the club has confirmed.

While the club doesn’t know the full extent of the injury, Duursma is set to miss at least four weeks, as originally reported by AFL Media’s Cal Twomey.

Duursma has enjoyed a strong start to his time at Essendon, averaging 18.9 disposals and 5.2 marks a game since moving over from Port Adelaide in the off-season.

The Bombers face GWS on Saturday afternoon at Marvel Stadium.

A four-week layoff would see the Don return around the club’s Round 13 clash against Carlton at the MCG on Sunday, June 9.
