St Kilda forward Jack Higgins has been offered a three-game ban by the Match Review Officer for his dangerous tackle on Aliir Aliir.

Higgins’ act – which left the Port Adelaide defender concussed – was labelled rough conduct and graded careless conduct, high contact and severe impact.

The Saints appear likely to take the ban to the AFL Tribunal, given Aliir contributed to the action in trying to kick as he was being tackled.

“I come back to intent. I don’t think at any stage was he intending to dump him until Aliir put himself in some weird position kicking the ball,” David King told SEN’s Crunch Time earlier on Saturday.

Gerard Whateley added: “I feel huge sympathy for Higgins in this scenario. There are a whole lot of things that conspire against him in a tackle that wasn’t going to end like that, ends like that.”

Should the ban stand, Higgins will miss the next three weeks. Fortunately, the Saints are blessed with a kind fixture in that time, taking on Hawthorn, North Melbourne and Fremantle.

Aliir will miss the Showdown against Adelaide next Thursday after being placed in the concussion protocols.
