Who were the six best players in Round 8?

Kane Cornes assessed each game and came up with his top six performers.

Read his thoughts below:

Jake Soligo (Adelaide)

“Jake Soligo is having some sort of year,” Cornes said on SEN Breakfast.

“Since he went into the midfield in that Fremantle game (in Round 3) he’s been enormous.”

Nick Daicos (Collingwood)

“You can’t go past Nick Daicos for his game.

“His match-winning ability and that freakish goal he kicked at the end.

“I said a couple of weeks ago that he’s tracking in a similar trajectory to Gary Ablett Jnr and everyone laughed at me.”

Nathan Buckley added: “He’s going to put in a best on ground performance every two or three games.

“If he does that, the thing that is going to put him up with ‘Gaz Junior’ is going to be team success over long period of time.”

Cornes continued: “He probably needs to win a Brownlow and I’m pretty confident that will happen at some point.”

Zach Merrett (Essendon)

“Speaking of big years, he is just having an enormous one.

“Three goals he kicked in that game in Perth (as well as 29 disposals).”

Will Hayward (Sydney)

“I love Will Hayward, I loved his game in tricky conditions.

“He kicked four match-defining goals.

“He’s out of contract, a big signature, a lot of clubs chasing him.

“I love he way that he defends. Does it in the air and on the ground.”

Dayne Zorko (Brisbane)

“He’s won five best and fairests. He had 40, including 35 kicks.”

Hayden Young (Fremantle)

“Hayden Young in the midfield for Fremantle for his game on Sunday at the MCG.”

Buckley added: “He’s having a great year.

“Caleb Serong and Andrew Brayshaw have got a lot of that focus, while Young as a half-back flanker who has gone into the midfield (is improving).

“He kicked a snap goal on his right foot, a long goal on his right and laced out a few players on his right foot.

“That’s his non-preferred. Is he the best current day non-preferred left footer?”
